Primary Purpose:

Perform on-site technical work to install and maintain computer equipment and network and software applications throughout the district or at assigned campus. Respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware.

 

Position Summary:

  • Work with district staff in maintaining the district computers and district computer network and programs.
  • Must be team driven, organized and eager to provide technology support for district
  • Must be responsible, punctual, and have strong people skills
  • Willing to transport hardware to and from various locations in district using personal vehicle
  • Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair computer hardware/software, & network connectivity
  • Have working knowledge of reformatting computers, fixing minor operating system problems
  • Must be willing to learn new technologies and demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Experience preferred in diagnosing hardware problems with PC’s, Chromebooks, and iPads
  • Experience preferred in replacing hardware components on PC’s, Chromebooks, and iPads
  • Maintain and follow all safety standards in performance of job duties
  • Follow work schedules for repair as outlined by work orders and supervisor
  • Must be trustworthy and responsible
  • Must have a customer service mindset and ability to communicate effectively solutions to end users

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • 2 yr Associate Degree preferred or 5+ years working experience as a computer technician
  • Clear and valid driver’s license

 

Experience:

3 years of work experience as computer technician or similar field

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong project management & communication skills
  • Knowledge of various operating systems
  • Knowledge of computer workstation and peripheral equipment setup
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals
  • Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware
  • Ability to diagnose problems, perform repairs, and document processes
  • Knowledge of active directory
  • Ability to prioritize work orders efficiently
  • Knowledge of Audio/Video technologies

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Technical Support such as:

  • Process technology work orders and assign priority to work orders. Evaluate & recommend technology related
  • repairs & costs.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade computers and peripherals, network cabling, and network peripherals.
  • throughout the district. Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance to users of computers, instructional equipment, and software.
  • Install and configure application and operating system software and upgrades.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and
  • equipment.
  • Communicate with software & hardware vendors to resolve end-user problems.
  • Coordinate with third-party support services for product assistance.
  • Manage the end-to-end warranty claim process.
  • Maintain Mobile Device Management software (JAMF, Google Admin, etc)
  • Layer 1 support of desktop phones
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Equipment Repair and Maintenance

  • Diagnose and repair network connectivity and hardware issues, including printers, terminals, and personal
  • computers.
  • Remove old equipment and perform data migration to new machines.
  • Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Maintain accurate updated
  • records of preventive maintenance.

 

Inventory

Maintain accurate inventory of hardware, software, and other equipment and material at assigned site(s).

Identify, request, and control the inventory of repair parts.

 

Other

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Educator Certification rule, and local board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; district issued computers and peripherals; small truck or van Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over) Environment: Exposure to electrical hazards; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; May be required to be on-call 24 hours a day. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
